Prosecutor general should report in investigation into cases against protesters, says president

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said that Ukrainian Prosecutor General Viktor Pshonka has to report in parliament on the investigation into the cases against the Euromaidan protesters.

"I think the prosecutor general has to report. It’s better to do this at parliamentary hearings or at a roundtable meeting," he said in an interview with the Ukrainian media on Thursday.

Yanukovych added that a working group should be created to elaborate a bill on an amnesty for the detained protesters.

"Speaking about the amnesty we discussed during the latest roundtable meeting, we should create a working group, elaborate this bill, and make a fair document in relation to the people who were driven by emotions while doing something," the president said.

At the same time, Yanukovych said that those who committed obvious provocations and broke Ukrainian law should not be exempt from punishment.
