Yanukovych: Provocateurs must be punished, others amnestied
Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said that people whose actions led to the forcible seizure of administrative buildings in Kyiv should be punished.
"We need to give a fair and objective answer to these questions. Who were these provocateurs? Who financed them?" Yanukovych said during a national round table on Friday.
He expressed the hope that the investigation would reveal the perpetrators.
Speaking about the events on Independence Square in Kyiv on the night of November 30 and on the night of December 11, Yanukovych said: "Those guilty must be punished, and those who were arrested by accident - the participants of the actions both on November 30, and on other days - should be amnestied."
The president said that this was what the public needed.
"The confrontation in the country will be stopped, Ukraine will return to stable life," he said.
