Ex-president Kravchuk proposes Yanukovych sign political part of Association Agreement separately
Ex-president of Ukraine (1990-1994) Leonid Kravchuk has said that Ukraine must protect its economic interests after joining the European Union.
Delivering a speech during a meeting in Kyiv of the previous presidents with the incumbent one, Viktor Yanukovych, Kravchuk said that this process could take a long time.
"That's why we propose to divide this problem into two parts: political and economic. We sign the political one, and decide on the economic part in the frames of the association," Kravchuk said.
"I'm sure that it will be much easier to settle [the economic issues], because the investments and everything another will be accepted by Ukraine, as state that is a part of an association. Now they regard us as strangers, not as their own people," he added.
