Verkhovna Rada committee on national security, defense to have emergency meeting soon

The Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security and Defense will hold an emergency meeting soon, the committee's press office said.

"The date of holding the meeting depends solely on how quickly committee members will be able to arrive for the meeting," the press office said on Monday.

At the same time, the committee said it was puzzled by the stance of UDAR faction deputy Serhiy Kaplin, who upon receiving the proposal of Committee Chairman Volodymyr Lytvyn to call the emergency meeting in order to discuss the situation existing in Ukraine, he "passed this as his own initiative and delivered it as an ultimatum to the colleagues in the committee."

It has been reported that Kaplin said on December 6 that he demanded that Lytvyn call an emergency meeting of the committee.
