EU urging Ukrainian authorities to refrain from use of force after reports of police blocking central Kyiv, says Linkevicius
The European Union has urged Ukrainian authorities to refrain from using force in the light of reports from Kyiv that police have blocked the capital's streets.
"Now, when we're speaking, we see special subdivisions gathering in the Kyiv downtown. We see the news that a decision to use force could be taken. If it's the truth, it should be stopped," Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevicius said in Brussels during the press conference on EU-Azerbaijan council's cooperation.
Besides, he said that EU pins its hopes on the Ukrainian government regarding the non-use of force.
"We also say that a full and transparent inquiry of the previous cases of violence by the police should be held. Those responsible should be punished," the minister added.
