UN Secretary General calls on peaceful dialogue to defuse political tensions in Ukraine
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has expressed his grave concern over the current situation in Ukraine in a telephone call with Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and appealed to the president for a peaceful dialogue to defuse ongoing political tensions in the country.
Ban also welcomed Yanukovich's assurances that consultations would be initiated to defuse the situation, according to a readout of the conversation from Ban's spokesperson.
