Yanukovych asks demonstrators to wait till next presidential election
Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has called on the people who gathered on Kyiv's Independence Square, as well as in other regions, not to take hasty actions and make their choice at the next presidential election.
"I ask all politicians not to hurry. They are all young, they have everything in their future. The election will come and people will decide. One will be elected and that will be. It has always been and it should always be this way," Yanukovych said in an interview with Ukrainian TV channels on Monday.
"Fighting will not bring anything. The future of our country and the people should unite us. Today we have to protect our national interests together and work for people. If we want European standards, we should do everything in line with the law. These are the principles of democracy," he said.
