The European Union and Ukraine initialed a comprehensive Air Services Agreement at the margins of the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius on Thursday, the Web site of the Lithuanian office in the EU reported.
"Today Ukraine and the EU initialed agreement on a common aviation area in the context of the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius," the report reads.
In October Ukraine and EU finished settlement of the text of the agreement on common aviation area and agreed on the preparations for the signing of the document.
As Deputy Premier of Ukraine Oleksandr Vilkul earlier reported, the signing of the agreement will attract new air carriers to Ukraine and facilitate an increase in passenger traffic.
First Deputy Head of the State Aviation Service of Ukraine Oleksandr Hrechko earlier said that in order to join the European Common Aviation Area (ECAA), Ukraine had to introduce 137 European regulations on the liberalization of the airspace in Ukraine. He said the State Aviation Service would put all the disputable issues related to the signing of the agreement into a separate memorandum.
