Death toll in shopping center collapse in Riga reaches 47
The number of people, who died in the collapse of the Maxim shopping center roof in Riga's Zolitude district, has reached 47, the Rus.delfi.lv portal reported on Friday.
The death toll keeps growing. The last person injured was brought to a hospital in the morning and since then survivors have not been found.
Rescuers are searching a total of 1,500 square meters and as of mid Friday another 600 square meters are to be examined, deputy rescue service head Normunds Plegermanis said at an emergency government meeting on Friday.
Rescuers currently are working at the collapse site because the threat of further collapse remains.
The rescue works have been held since 6 p.m. on November 21.
