EU to welcome Yanukovych's participation in Vilnius summit, says Ashton's spokesperson
The European Union will welcome the participation of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych in the upcoming Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius on November 28-29, the spokesperson for EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission Catherine Ashton, Maja Kocijancic, has said.
"We will welcome the participation of the president of Ukraine. We expect that Ukraine will take part in the summit in Vilnius," she said at a press briefing in Brussels on Friday, when asked to comment on the Ukrainian government's decision to suspend its preparations for the signing of the association agreement with the EU.
