Participation of Yatseniuk, Tiahnybok in presidential election to reduce opposition's chances of winning, says Klitschko
Leader of the UDAR Party Vitali Klitschko has said that the nomination of leader of Batkivschyna faction Arseniy Yatseniuk and leader of Svoboda faction Oleh Tiahnybok in the 2015 presidential election would lessen the chances of an opposition win.
If Yatseniuk and Tiahnybok run for president, this will complicate the task of the opposition forces and open the field for manipulation by the authorities, he said in an interview with the Focus magazine.
"In such case there will be no absolute guarantee that a representative of the opposition will be able to get to the runoff," he said.
Klitschko expressed confidence that many candidates would run in the 2015 presidential elections, and the best chance to win for the opposition is through uniting around a single candidate.
When asked whether he was ready to give up his political ambitions for the sake of the release of jailed Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, the UDAR leader said: "Your question is nothing more than speculation. At present, the most important task is to make sure that Yulia Tymoshenko no longer remains in prison," he said.
