Chubarov elected chairman of Mejlis of Crimean Tatars
Refat Chubarov, who previously served as first deputy chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, has been elected the new chairman of the Mejlis.
During the first session of the sixth Kurultai (congress) of the Crimean Tatars, which was held in Simferopol on Sunday, 126 Kurultai delegates voted for Chubarov's election as the new chairman of the Mejlis, and 112 voted for his opponent, Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis Remzi Ilyasov. Two ballots were declared invalid.
Chubarov was born in Samarkand (Uzbekistan) on September 22, 1957.
