Onishchenko appointed aide to Medvedev

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has appointed Gennady Onishchenko as an aide after dismissing him as head of the Federal Surveillance Service for Consumer Rights and Human Welfare (Rospotrebnadzor), Medvedev's spokeswoman said on Wednesday.

The spokeswoman, Natalya Timakova, said the reason for Onishchenko's dismissal as head of Rospotrebnadzor was the expiry of a one-year contract with him that was signed when he turned 60.

"During the signature of this contract exactly a year ago, Medvedev suggested that, after the expiry of that agreement, Gennady Onishchenko move to a position of aide to the prime minister," Timakova said.

Anna Popova was appointed as interim head of Rospotrebnadzor.
