Ukraine has not only supporters in EU, says Azarov

Ukraine has both supporters and opponents of its European integration policy in the European Union, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has said.

"We have friends in the European Union, as well as countries that have a slightly different position," he said in a political talk show on the First National TV channel on Friday.

The prime minister recalled that Ukraine met with a fairly strong opposition when it proposed its amendments to the text of the Association Agreement with the EU concerning the prospect of Ukraine's eventually acquiring the EU membership.

In addition, the head of the Ukrainian government again stressed that "the fate of one person cannot be put on the same scale as the fate of the 46-million country and the politicians who put such categorical terms are taking a great historical responsibility."

Azarov also said that the Ukrainian authorities were doing their best to ensure the Association Agreement should be signed at the Eastern Partnership Summit, which will be held in Vilnius in November.
