Ukrainian foreign minister: Gas wars of 2007 and 2009 no longer possible today
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Leonid Kozhara has said he is confident that the gas conflicts that occurred a few years ago will not happen again.
"The situations in 2007 and 2009, which we call a 'gas war,' are already impossible today. Firstly, the gas market in Europe has changed dramatically: in a short time Europe walked a tremendous path to diversify supplies. Secondly, Ukraine also reformed its gas market quite successfully," he said in an interview with Forbes.ua as part of the 10th Yalta Annual Meeting organized by the Yalta European Strategy.
"A contract for shale gas development was signed with Shell. We soon expect to sign a contract with ExxonMobil for the development of the Oleske shale gas field, and it is currently being prepared by the government. This is another $10 billion in investment," Kozhara said.
