Kyiv needs to comprehensively develop underground space, says expert
The active urban development of Kyiv requires the efficient use of territories, which include underground areas, especially in the development of an underground transport network, Archimatika project group (Kyiv) Director Oleksandr Popov has said.
"Underground infrastructure in the Ukrainian capital will be developed. However, this will happen during a new economic recovery. In the more distant future the city will start the construction of underground highways, as the existing surface transport arteries are almost exhausted as a resource. The increase of urbanization, the number of vehicles requires radical solutions. Now it is difficult to find investment for these purposes," he said.
The expert said Kyiv today uses a small part of its underground space, mainly for the subway, retail space near the metro stations, as well as parking.
Archimatika was created in 2005. It performs a full range of architectural and construction designing from the projects of urban structures to separate mono-functional objects.
