Ukrainian Lapshyn indicted on four counts in Britain, says Foreign Ministry

A British court has charged Ukrainian post-graduate student Pavlo Lapshyn, who was arrested on suspicion of a murder and preparing terrorist acts, on four counts, according to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.

"At the hearing at Westminster Magistrates Court in London on July 23 he was charged on four counts. This is terrorist related killing of British citizen Mohammed Saleem. The second is activities to prepare acts of terrorism between April and July of this year. This is Part 5 of the Terrorism Act dated 2006 – the activities which includes purchase of components of explosives, finding locations for planting explosives etc.," Director of Information Policy Department of the Foreign Ministry Yevhen Perebyinis told Interfax-Ukraine.

"The third is illegal handling of explosives, which could endanger life or significant injury people and cause damage, near Aisha mosque in Walsall area in June of this year and the fourth is the same, but near the Kanz Ul Iman Masjid Mosque in Tipton area in July of this year," the Foreign Ministry's spokesman said.

A correspondent of the news service of the Ukrainian Channel 1+1 said that Lapshyn was not present in court at the hearing in the morning of July 25, which lasted about ten minutes. However, he participated in it via a video linkup from Birmingham, he answered very briefly without using the services of an interpreter.

The next court hearing will be held on August 2 in London, Lapshyn's presence at the meeting is not planned.

At the same time, the reporter did not specify which court in London will hold the hearing.
