Ukraine not ready to sign association agreement with EU yet, says Lithuanian ambassador
Ukraine is not ready to sign an association agreement with the European Union, Lithuania's Ambassador to Ukraine Petras Vaitiekunas has said.
"There are no internal barriers in the European Union to the signing of the association agreement with Ukraine. But in our opinion the Ukrainian side is not ready yet," he said on Channel 5 on Monday.
In his words, there are three important areas in which the EU and Ukraine should unite efforts to achieve progress for the signing of the agreement. These are the reform of the judicial system, the reform of the electoral law, as well as the issues of selective justice.
"If we achieve progress in these three areas, and it is not too late, because time is crucial, I think, that the association agreement will be signed," Vaitiekunas summed up.
