Tymoshenko not to beg Yanukovych for pardon, says defense counsel
The convicted former prime minister of Ukraine, Yulia Tymoshenko, will not ask President Viktor Yanukovych to pardon her, the ex-premier's defense counsel Serhiy Vlasenko has said.
"It is an absolutely clear position, which we have stated repeatedly. This position has not changed," Vlasenko told reporters on Wednesday.
He said that neither former Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko, nor his family had asked the president to pardon him.
"I repeat that Yulia Tymoshenko is not holding any talks with the current government. The situation in which Ukraine has found itself because of the use of politically motivated justice was created by [President] Viktor Yanukovych. It's up to him to solve this situation. In the case of Yuriy Lutsenko, nobody wrote any statements," Vlasenko said.
