Yanukovych proposes parliament dismiss Shapoval, appoint new CEC member
Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has submitted to the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, a proposal to dismiss member and incumbent chairman of the Central Election Commission Volodymyr Shapoval, as he has turned 65 years old.
"According to item 21, Part 1, Article 85 of the Constitution of Ukraine, Articles 6 and 30 of the law of Ukraine on the Central Election Commission, I am submitting a proposal on early termination of powers of the Central Election Commission member Shapoval, as he has turned 65 years old," reads the president's proposal posted on his Web site on Monday.
The president also proposed that parliament appoint Oleksandr Kopylenko as a new member of the Central Election Commission, according to the presidential press service.
Presidential envoy to the parliament, Yuriy Miroshnychenko, will present the president's proposal at a plenary sitting of the Verkhovna Rada.
As reported, Shapoval turned 65 years old, which is the retirement age for officials, on May 25.
