UDAR preparing Klitschko for upcoming presidential election as single opposition candidate, expert says
The UDAR Party, during the early elections for deputies of local councils and heads of cities, towns and villages, competed for the leadership of Vitali Klitschko as a single opposition candidate in the presidential election, rather than for portfolios in local elections, political analyst Volodymyr Tsybulko has said.
"It was a struggle by UDAR for the future leadership of the opposition, in fact, for a single opposition candidate - Vitali Klitschko. And UDAR, after the latest rankings released, exerted every effort to lay the foundation for Klitschko's future victory," he told Interfax-Ukraine on Sunday.
He added that it would be possible to say after these elections whether Klitschko will be able to increase his rating, pushing UDAR candidates into local government agencies, or if he will have to continue to defend the right to be a single opposition candidate among other opposition leaders.
