U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine John Tefft has said he hopes that the State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine will allow him and Head of the EU Delegation in Ukraine Jan Tombinski to visit former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko after the May holidays.
"We were hopeful that we would be able to visit Mrs. Tymoshenko before the holidays, but we were informed that this cannot happen because of the holidays," Tefft said at a briefing on Monday.
The diplomat said he hoped that the prison service will grant them a relevant permission soon.
"All Ukrainian officials know that we wish to visit Tymoshenko," Tefft added.
