Ukraine's reservoirs cope with melt water, but flooding is still possible in Kyiv, says deputy premier
Ukraine's water reservoirs have enough capacity to cope with melted snow water, however there still can be local flooding, including in Kyiv, Deputy Prime Minister Oleksandr Vilkul has said.
"The most important thing is that we have free capacity in the reservoirs. Ukraine currently has a total of 6.6 billion cubic meters of available capacity, including 700 million in Kyiv reservoir and almost 300 million cubic meters in Kaniv, which is quite enough," Vilkul told reporters in Kyiv on March 30.
At the same time, he predicted that there could be local problems. "Equipment and experts with drainage pumps have been provided," he said.
According to the deputy prime minister, they continued to monitor the situation with the possible flooding of the caves of Kyiv Pechersk Lavra.
Local problems may arise, but there are plans to address these problems, Vilkul said.
