Opposition MPs sign parliament's statement on Ukraine's aspiration for European integration
Representatives of the parliamentary opposition will discuss their further actions at the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, which they have been blocking since February 5, on Thursday.
"We don't see any effective actions of the parliamentary majority, that's why we blocked the rostrum. We will keep blocking it," Vitaliy Kovalchuk, the deputy head of the UDAR parliamentary faction, told journalists.
He added that the discussion would take place in the sitting hall of the parliament.
Kovalchuk also said that the members of the oppositional factions put their signatures to the draft statement of the Verkhovna Rada on the implementation of Ukraine's aspirations for European integration and the signing of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement. He also said that representatives of the parliamentary majority could also sign this draft statement by signing it, if they want to.
As reported, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on European Integration passed the draft statement of the Ukrainian parliament on the implementation of Ukraine's aspirations for European integration and the signing of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement on February 20.
The draft document reads that the Verkhovna Rada "within its powers will ensure that the recommendations concerning the signing of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU, which are stipulated in the resolutions of the European Parliament and the conclusions of the Council of the EU approved on December 10, 2012, at a meeting of the EU foreign ministers, will be fulfilled."
The parliamentary committee said at the meeting that the Verkhovna Rada would resume its work on February 21 and the draft statement would be put on the agenda of the session and considered on the same day.
The opposition parliamentary factions have been blocking the parliament's work since February 5, demanding that individual voting be introduced.
