Parliament could resume work on February 20

The Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, could resume its work on February 20, say members of the Regions Party.

"Oleksandr Yefremov [the head of the Regions Party parliamentary faction] told us that we are starting to work tomorrow. This is good news," Regions Party faction MP Volodymyr Oliynyk told journalists on Tuesday.

"They [the opposition] refused [proposals] to use a touch-sensitive button [for individual voting], which failed the trial and does not meet their requirements," he said.

He also said that the Regions Party proposed the following algorithm: "The MPs will register, the Verkhovna Rada chairman will read aloud the names of the MPs that are absent and their voting cards will be blocked and removed, and then we will vote."

Oliynyk added that if a people's deputy comes at the sitting after the registration procedure, the parliamentary chairman would have to announce that he or she has started to work.

"Thus, we will ensure that everyone votes individually," he said.
