Yefremov: Ukraine not reporting to EU, but holding dialog
The leader of the Regions Party faction in parliament, Oleksandr Yefremov, has said he plans to talk with EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule about a new Criminal Procedure Code (CPC) of Ukraine.
"I think that we will have enough arguments to speak with Fule in this area [on the Criminal Procedure Code that was adopted in Ukraine]," he told reporters in Kyiv on Wednesday.
He said that the code, which was recently adopted by the Verkhovna Rada, is a "unique document that puts the presumption of innocence in the first place."
Yefremov also noted that Ukraine is not reporting at these meetings, but "we're holding a respective dialog," because "we don't have to humiliate ourselves and our nation."
He added that there was still time before the meeting with Fule and that he would think about what issues could be raised during the meeting.
