MPs convince activists stop protest against political repression outside presidential administration

Members of the Batkivschyna parliamentary faction, Borys Tarasiuk and Andriy Shevchenko, have convinced activists that had chained themselves to the fence near the building of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine on Kyiv's Bankova Street to stop their protest against political repression.

"We've managed to convince the guys that their health is of greater importance. I cut the chains together with Borys Tarasiuk. The guys are in the warm now," Shevchenko wrote on Twitter.

"We admire the guys' courage. We share their demands. We will demand that their wishes be satisfied. But not at the cost of patriots' health," he wrote.

Several participants in the protest titled "Down with Political Perverts" chained themselves to the presidential administration fence in the afternoon of January 21. They demanded an immediate end to political repression, torture and absurd falsifications of criminal cases and the urgent release of former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, former Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko and other political prisoners.

Earlier, Shevchenko said that one of the activists had taken ill on Tuesday morning.
