Doctors see no need for urgent surgery on Lutsenko, suggest changing his diet, says prison service

A medical commission of the Health Ministry does not see any need to hold urgent surgery on former Ukrainian Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko, but notes that the operation can be conducted within next three to six months.

All the doctors recommended by the convict's wife, Iryna Lutsenko, examined the ex-minister on December 17 in Mena penal colony, Chernihiv region, the press service of the State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine reported. They concluded that Lutsenko was in a satisfactory condition.

The doctors confirmed the earlier recommendations to the patient that there was no need for an urgent medical intervention. They said that this procedure could be carried out within next three to six months, the press service said.

The commission also said they did not see the need for any other urgent medical procedures, such as surgical interventions and/or intensive care.

Meanwhile, after talking with the patient, the doctors recommended him a diet change, laboratory tests, and also advised adjusting the prescribed medication therapy.

The People's Self-Defense Party's press secretary, Larysa Sarhan, said earlier that an extended medical commission had come to the conclusion that former Interior Minister of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko had to undergo surgery within half a year.

As reported, earlier doctors discovered that Lutsenko has polyps and recommended that they be removed via surgery.
