State prosecution may demand Tymoshenko be brought to court hearing
The public prosecution doesn't rule out the possibility of requesting the compulsory delivery of former prime minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko to the Kharkiv court where the case against the ex-premier concerning the financial abuses within the United Energy Systems of Ukraine (UESU) Corporation is being considered.
"We might make such an application," Prosecutor Viktoria Kalyta said at a briefing on Tuesday.
She noted that due to Tymoshenko's absence the court had been postponing the hearing for the past eight months.
"The situation is unprecedented. I believe the public can draw certain conclusions that the defendant is trying to evade court appearances, and thus delays the court hearing of the criminal case," Kalyta said.
She also noted that the state prosecution was unconvinced by Tymoshenko's arguments that she could not appear in court due to health problems.
