Yanukovych instructs government to improve legislation on state order in defense sphere

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has promised to do everything possible to ensure the timely supply of armaments to the Ukrainian army.

"The state armament and military equipment program for 2012-2017 is being amended for this purpose and for the future," the president said at an event to mark the 21st anniversary of the Armed Forces of Ukraine at Officers' House in Kyiv.

According to Yanukovych, the state order for the defense industry will be based on the program and domestic defense industry enterprises will be actively involved in its implementation.

The head of state also stressed that structural changes should be made in the defense industry for its further development in compliance with the aims of the military and defense policy.

"I am instructing the Cabinet of Ministers to intensify work in this direction at the existing governmental interdepartmental commission, and to draw up proposals on the improvement of the legal basis for the formation of the state order for the defense industry," Yanukovych said.
