FEMEN activists conduct topless protest in Rio de Janeiro
Activists from the Ukrainian women's movement FEMEN have conducted their traditional topless protest against the development of the sex industry in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The protest took place on the main terrace of the city's most fashionable hotel, Copacabana Palace, FEMEN reported on its website on Friday. The activists were holding banners saying "Brazilian women for sale here!" and "Brazilian girls for $50."
"By this protest, FEMEN demonstrates the tendency of poor Latin American countries to turn into global sex fast food centers. FEMEN alleges that the Brazilian sex industry is preparing for the World Football Championship [which will be held in 2014]," the report says.
The protesters were detained by hotel security and handed over to the police.
