Parliamentary elections show Ukraine chooses democratic path, says MEP

MEP Ewald Stadler (Austria) has said that the October 28 parliamentary elections in Ukraine were not perfect, but generally reflect the will of Ukrainians.

"Ukraine keeps to the democratic path, which involves the development of relations with the European Union. The elections have shown that this is the will of the Ukrainian people," Stadler said during a round table meeting on the 2012 parliamentary election and the prospects of relations between Ukraine and the EU in the European Parliament in Strasbourg.

He added that over 3,000 observers monitored these elections, which is an unprecedented number, and some of them criticized the process.

"I'm from Austria and want to say that sometimes we are also criticized in terms of the transparency of sources of financing, and in this respect, I understand what's going on," the Austrian politician said.

However, regardless of the assessment of the elections, Ukraine's foreign policy was clearly aimed at rapprochement with the EU, Stadler said.
