CEC deputy head says election results could still be established in five disputed constituencies
The Central Election Commission (CEC) does not rule out that the election results could still be established in five disputed election districts.
"This issue is not closed for me," CEC Deputy Chairman Andriy Mahera said at a briefing on Tuesday.
He said that the Central Election Commission had asked the Verkhovna Rada to legislatively regulate the possibility of holding repeat elections.
"Instead, we got two by-laws," he said.
Mahera said that on November 6, the parliament adopted two resolutions, with one of them on the creation of an ad hoc investigative commission proposing that the CEC take additional measures to determine the election results in the disputed districts.
In its second resolution, the Verkhovna Rada proposed calling repeat elections in these districts and setting a date for their holding, Mahera said.
He said that the CEC should be guided by the laws and that at present the problem of holding election reruns had not been legally resolved.
He said that the CEC would further study the election documents and analyze the decisions of the courts.
