Kuchma convinced Ukraine has to choose between EU, Customs Union
Second Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma is convinced that the Ukrainian leadership must make a choice between seeking membership of the European Union or the Belarusian-Kazakh-Russian Customs Union.
"We do not understand and do not know today whether we are going to Europe or the Customs Union. We are making promises to both, and both are lavishing compliments on us," Kuchma told journalists while visiting the National Aviation University in Kyiv on Tuesday.
Despite difficulties Ukraine is facing now, the leadership should decide what direction it would choose, Kuchma said.
"However difficult it is for the authorities today, they have to make a decision. You can't be between the hammer and the anvil," he said.
