Yanukovych calling for speedy formation of new parliament
The Ukrainian parliament of the 7th convocation should form working structures and get to work as soon as possible, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said in an address to the Ukrainian people.
"I expect cooperation from the new Verkhovna Rada in modernization, economic development and the democratic transformation of our country. The parliament must urgently move from election rhetoric to work, and quickly form their working structures. First of all, lawmakers need to consider a number of urgent bills," reads a statement published on the president's Web site on Wednesday.
Yanukovych also called on the newly elected Verkhovna Rada to engage in constructive and fruitful cooperation for the sake of the successful future of the country.
"After all, our common goal is to work in the interests of the state and the people," the statement reads.
The first session of the new parliament is scheduled for December 17.
