Return to Russian market important for Georgia - minister
Georgia's new government wants to facilitate Georgian products' re-emergence on the Russian market, Georgian Agriculture Minister David Kirvalidze told journalists.
"We have taken note of [Russia's chief sanitary official] Gennady Onishchenko's recent statement to the effect that Russia is ready to allow Georgian products back into its market if the Georgian authorities do not raise obstacles. We will not obstruct this process. On the contrary, we will create ample opportunities for Georgian companies to export their products to Russia," Kirvalidze said on Tuesday.
"The world is fighting to gain access to the Russian market. Re-emergence on the Russian market would be very important for Georgia," he said.
Kirvalidze said he had discussed this issue with Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili.
