US Embassy doesn't finance Ukrainian parties, reads statement
The United States Embassy in Ukraine has dismissed recent media reports about its alleged financial assistance to some Ukrainian political parties.
"As is standard diplomatic practice, the U.S. Embassy meets regularly with leaders of major political parties, both in the government and in the opposition. It does not provide financial support to any party," reads the statement posted on the embassy's Web site in response to a publication's request for comment "on a piece of amateurish propaganda that appeared on an obscure Web site attempting to depict illicit contacts by the embassy with Ukrainian opposition parties."
"It is unfortunately not unusual in the days before a major election for some individuals desperate to advance their political cause to seek to involve foreign governments in their provocations," reads the statement.
