Belarus plans to import 5 bln kW/h of electricity from Russia in 2013

Belarus plans to import 5 billion kilowatt hours of electricity from Russia in 2013, Belarusian Energy Minister Alexander Ozerets said at a press conference in Minsk Friday.

"The electricity balance with Russia has been entirely agreed. We are looking at deliveries of 5 kilowatt hours from Russia, of which 3 billion kilowatt hours is guaranteed import and 2 billion can be purchased within the balance if it is economically sound," Ozerets said.

Belarus has not yet determined how much electricity it will import from Ukraine, he added. "With Ukraine we are still looking at this issue, we need to look at the economic sense for us, so that with these purchases it is not just that we cannot produce such volumes ourselves, but also that we obtain a benefit from imports," the minister said.

Ozerets added that Belarus will import 7 billion kilowatt hours of electricity from Russia and Ukraine in 2012.
