A far-right Svoboda (Freedom) All-Ukrainian Union held a rally at Taras Shevchenko Park in Kyiv to mark the 70th anniversary of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army.
Several thousand people gathered at the Monument to Taras Shevchenko. They held party banners and also national and red and black flags, an Interfax-Ukraine correspondent reported.
Svoboda activists showed a concert on an improvised stage and the air was filled with Ukrainian patriotic songs.
After the rally the nationalists headed from the park to Mykhailivska Square, where a concert was given.
About 1,500 Svoboda activists gathered near the monument, according to the city police.
