Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych during a visit to public joint-stock company Kherson shipyard on Thursday inspected building work being done on tankers for the RST27 eco project under an order from SVL Group (Malta), the press service of the head of state has reported.

The press service said that during his visit Yanukovych pointed out the importance of developing the domestic metal consumption market, including through orders from the shipbuilding sector.

The president also spoke to workers of the shipyard and showed interest in the level of their wage and social provision.

Head of Kherson shipyard, Vasyl Fedin, presented a program for the building of food carrying ships to Yanukovych, pointing at the importance for the shipyard of attracting similar such orders.

The press service of Kherson shipyard reported that after the visit to the shipyard, the head of state held a working meeting on the social and economic development of Kherson region with the participation of the regional authorities and discussed the revival of regular river and sea navigation.

Head of Kherson Regional Administration Mykola Kostiak said that experience of Kherson shipbuilders means it can design and build not only complete vessels, but assemble metal structures for bridges, and above-water and underwater oil and gas pipelines. The production volumes of the shipyards mainly depend on the needs for transport products on internal water routes, he said.
