President: Ukraine needs legitimate government to continue reforms
Ukraine needs a legitimate government to continue reforms, therefore it is interested in holding fair and democratic parliamentary elections, President Viktor Yanukovych has said.
While speaking at an Independence Day ceremony in Kyiv on Friday, he said he was confident that the current parliamentary elections will be a "starting point for fundamental changes in the Ukrainian society."
"The elections should be held fairly and in accordance with the law. Reforms need a legitimate representative government. Only the enemies of our state's modernization could prevent its formation, block and disrupt this process," Yanukovych said.
He also said that he was planning to do everything necessary to ensure the implementation of reforms in the country.
