General Staff: To preserve lives of soldiers, combat readiness of units, Ukrainian defenders withdraw from Siversk

Ukrainian defenders withdrew from the settlement of Siversk (Donetsk region) "in order to preserve the lives of our soldiers and combat readiness of units," the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on Tuesday.

"Heavy fighting continues in the Siversk area. Russian occupying forces have a significant advantage in manpower and equipment and, despite substantial losses, continue active offensive operations. In order to preserve the lives of our soldiers and the combat effectiveness of units, Ukrainian defenders withdrew from the settlement. During the battles for Siversk, the Defense Forces of Ukraine wore down the enemy; every meter of the city came at a high cost for the aggressor," the message said on a Telegram channel.

"The invaders managed to advance due to a significant numerical advantage and constant pressure by small assault groups in difficult weather conditions. The city remains under the fire control of our troops," the General Staff noted.

According to its information, the occupiers who are in the city are "being struck, their logistics are being cut, and enemy units are being blocked in order to prevent their further advance."

The Defense Forces continue to carry out combat missions on the Sloviansk axis. All measures are being taken to reduce the offensive potential of the enemy’s units and formations, the General Staff reported.
