Trofymenko: Task is to reach 100,000 foreign students in Ukraine after war end
Deputy Minister of Education and Science Mykola Trofymenko expects that after the end of the war the number of foreign students in Ukraine may grow to 100,000.
"Today, our universities have combined many areas, including those important to society, such as sustainability. Europeans cannot understand this. This is one of the factors that will increase the number of foreigners after the war ends. Currently, 20,000 foreigners are studying here; before the war, there were about 80,000. Our goal is to restore the number of foreign students to 100,000 after the war," Trofymenko said in an exclusive interview with Interfax-Ukraine.
He emphasized that we must do everything possible to ensure that our universities maintain their network of contacts and their ability to teach foreigners.
"After the war ends, we will significantly increase the number of foreign citizens receiving an education at our Ukrainian universities," the deputy minister added.
According to reports, 5,475 foreign students were enrolled in Ukrainian higher education institutions in 2025, which is 534 more than in 2024 (4,941).
