Rubio dismisses reports of Driscoll claiming Ukraine faces imminent defeat as fake
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has responded to an NBC News story that alleged that US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll gave a bleak assessment of the situation on the battlefield in Ukraine.
In a post on his own social media account, X, Rubio said: "This story is just the latest example of a long-running series of 100% fake news reports claiming a rift inside the Trump administration over how to end the war in Ukraine. These people don’t just get things wrong, they literally make things up."
NBC News, citing two anonymous sources familiar with the matter, previously reported that during a meeting with Ukrainian officials in Kyiv last week, Army Secretary Dan Driscoll allegedly gave a "gloomy assessment" and told his colleagues that Ukrainian forces were "facing a dire situation on the battlefield and facing imminent defeat at the hands of Russian forces."
