EU Council asks European Commission to propose further measures to support Ukraine's energy security
The EU Foreign Affairs Council has asked the European Commission to develop additional measures to better support Ukraine's energy security, which is the target of Russian attacks.
This was announced by the High Representative of the European Union, Kaja Kallas, on Monday in Luxembourg after the meeting of the foreign ministers of the EU member states.
Kallas said that Russia sought to inflict as much harm as possible on civilians. She explained that the European Commission had been invited to propose additional measures to better support Ukraine’s energy security, and that member states had agreed to reach out to third countries to provide repair equipment and increase gas supplies to Ukraine.
She expressed her belief that EU member states should heed President Trump’s call to stop buying Russian oil and gas.
Kallas added that Ukraine needed more military and financial support, noting that ministers had discussed the European Commission’s proposal to mobilize frozen Russian assets for Ukraine’s immediate defence needs.
