German FM calls on Trump to increase pressure on Putin to end the war in Ukraine
German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul called on US President Donald Trump to increase pressure on Putin to end Russia's war in Ukraine following his success in mediating in the Gaza Strip, Deutsche Welle reports.
According to Wadephul, Trump "made a decisive contribution to reaching an agreement on the Gaza Strip, and Germany hopes that he can continue his efforts to achieve negotiations between Russia and Ukraine." The German foreign minister made this statement on Monday during a meeting with his Bulgarian counterpart, Georg Georgiev, in Sofia.
The minister emphasized that Germany has high hopes for the US administration, as Trump has "convincingly demonstrated his interest in peace agreements around the world." Wadephul added that it is now important to "make a new breakthrough in Ukraine before hostilities flare up again on a larger scale."
