Germany will not deploy military contingent in Ukraine
German Foreign Minister Wadeful has ruled out the potential deployment of German troops in a peacekeeping mission in Ukraine after the war ends.
"The Bundeswehr has already deployed a brigade in Lithuania. An additional deployment of German soldiers in Ukraine would probably be too much of a burden for us," N-TV quoted the German foreign minister as saying.
Wadeful said Germany should play an "important role" in any peacekeeping mission. He noted that Ukraine needs security guarantees, but ruled out the deployment of German troops in Ukraine.
As previously reported, British Defense Secretary John Healy said his government was "ready to send British troops" to Ukraine if a ceasefire was reached. The leaders of the "coalition of the willing" will be ready to deploy a multinational security force in Ukraine after the cessation of hostilities, French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said in a joint statement following a virtual meeting of the leaders of the "Coalition of the willing."
