European Solidarity submits to Rada draft appeal addressed to US Congress - MP Gerashchenko
The European Solidarity faction in the Verkhovna Rada has registered a draft appeal to the US Congress on continued support for Ukraine, said faction co-chair Iryna Gerashchenko.
As reported on the website of the political force, European Solidarity is also initiating a resolution to lift restrictions on international business trips for deputies.
"European Solidarity, as promised, registered a resolution - an appeal to the US Congress regarding bipartisan support for Ukraine. We will fight for its preservation and for the preservation of the anti-Putin coalition. However, for this we need to have the ability to carry out inter-parliamentary diplomacy, and not overcome the blocking of opposition missions every time. Therefore, we also registered a resolution on eliminating restrictions on the exercise of powers by deputies ... We will insist on the priority consideration of these resolutions," Gerashchenko said.
She noted the importance of maximizing interparliamentary diplomacy, since, according to her, Ukraine is critically dependent on bipartisan and bicameral support. "We need to work with Republicans and Democrats, and even more so with American society, which, as we see from Sunday's protests, has different opinions and positions," the parliamentarian is convinced.
"The shocking figures from public opinion polls in the USA show that almost 80% of Republican Party voters are against aid to Ukraine, while overall, less than 50% of Americans support providing aid. These are very alarming signals that the Ukrainian government should also analyze," Gerashchenko noted.
As reported, earlier the plans of European Solidarity to initiate the Verkhovna Rada's appeal to the US Congress were announced by the party's leader Petro Poroshenko. "European Solidarity initiates the Verkhovna Rada's appeal to the US Congress regarding a new resolution on bipartisan support for Ukraine in these conditions as a strategic partner. Such a resolution should contain guarantees regarding new packages of military and financial aid and continuation of sanctions against Russia. The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada assured that he has a special relationship with Mike Johnson, calling them a ‘speaker coalition.’ Therefore, it is high time to use all this. As well as other forms of parliamentary diplomacy to guarantee support," he said.
