European Commission head announces continued pressure on Russia after introduction of 16th package of sanctions
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen welcomed the latest package of sanctions by the European Union against Russia and said that it concerns export-import operations and the so-called "shadow fleet" of the aggressor state, which helped them circumvent previously imposed sanctions.
“I welcome the agreement on our 16th package of sanctions. The EU is clamping down even harder on circumvention by targeting more vessels in Putin’s shadow fleet and imposing new import and export bans,” von der Leyen said on X Wednesday.
The head of the European Commission also announced continued pressure on the Russian Federation. “We are committed to keep up the pressure on the Kremlin,” von der Leyen added.
As reported, on Wednesday, ambassadors of the EU member states agreed on the 16th package of sanctions against Russia, which will be finally adopted at the EU Foreign Affairs Council on Monday.
