Macron: France won’t send ground troops to Ukraine to participate in war
President Emmanuel Macron has said that Paris is not yet preparing to send its ground troops to Ukraine, but noted that France is considering sending military experts or a limited contingent outside the conflict zone to demonstrate solidarity, the French ezine Le Figaro reports.
"Today, France is not preparing to send warring ground troops to the front line [in Ukraine]. Among the solutions to provide security guarantees to Ukraine, it is possible to send experts or even troops in limited numbers outside any conflict zone to support Ukrainians and demonstrate solidarity," Macron said.
The French President said that his country supports the rearmament of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which should become part of a long-term security strategy.
The French leader also mentioned the possibility of "making a decision within the framework of negotiations on conducting a peacekeeping operation under the UN mandate, which would take place along the front line."
